DAY

Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardungla Pass

Leh → Khardungla Pass → Deskit → Hunder → Nubra

Today, we’re off to Nubra Valley, which means driving up the highest road you can drive on in the whole world! Imagine us winding up the roads to Khardungla Pass, way up at 18,380 feet. We’ll stop there to take in the amazing views and snap some photos. Nubra Valley is right where two rivers, the Shayok and Nubra, meet and it used to be on a major trade route.

Our first stop is Deskit, Nubra’s tiny capital. We’ll check out the Deskit Gompa, a monastery sitting high on a hill, offering great views of the valley. There’s also a huge statue of Maitreya Buddha, over 100 feet tall, waiting for us to see. Inside the monastery, there are lots of cool deity statues to look at.

Next, we’re heading to Hunder, known for its sand dunes. Here’s the fun part: we’ll meet some Bactrian camels, the fluffy, two-humped kind, which were once used by traders traveling across Central Asia. If you want, you can even ride one (this costs extra, though).

After a day full of adventure, we’ll head back to our camp or hotel for dinner and a good night’s sleep, ready for tomorrow’s adventures.

DAY

Nubra – Turtuk Excursion – Nubra

Nubra → Turtuk → Nubra

Today, we’re heading to one of Ladakh’s hidden gems, a place not many tourists know about but is absolutely beautiful. Imagine a journey where you’re surrounded by incredible mountains and pass through quaint villages. This special spot is watched over by the Ladakh Scouts, part of the Indian Army, because it’s right on the border. A long time ago, in 1971, this village switched from being part of Pakistan to becoming part of India overnight. The people here are super friendly, and they live simple lives, farming veggies and apricots, and sometimes they help travelers by providing mules for their journeys.

We’re going to Turtuk, a village with a fascinating story. It was once part of a place called Baltistan in Pakistan, but one day, they went to bed in one country and woke up in another!

We’ll spend a full day exploring this area, soaking in all the stories and the breathtaking views, and then head back to Nubra Valley to spend the night either camping under the stars or in a cozy hotel. It’s going to be an adventure to remember.

DAY

Nubra to Pangong Lake via Shayok

Nubra → Shayok → Tang Tse → Spangmik → Pangong Lake

After you finish your breakfast at the camp or hotel, we’ll set off for our next awesome spot, Pangong Lake, which is way up high at 14,500 feet! We’ll take a cool shortcut that goes through Shayok and then heads to Tang Tse and Spangmik, right by Pangong Lake. This route is super scenic. We’ll follow the Shayok river, drive up a mountain, and then come down into Shayok village, which is pretty big and surrounded by huge, empty mountains. It looks amazing! It only takes about an hour to get to Shayok, and you’re going to love how it looks.

In the afternoon, we’ll arrive at Pangong Lake, where you can chill and have a great time by the water. When the day ends, we’ll have dinner and spend the night in a camp right there.

DAY

Pangong Lake to Hanle via Tsaga La

Pangong Lake → Tsaga La → Hanle

After breakfast, we’ll take a fun drive to Hanle. On the way, we’ll pass by Chushul Village and Tsaga La, a high mountain pass. Hanle is special because it has one of the highest observatories in the world, where scientists watch the stars. It’s also a place full of history. A long time ago, a king named Singge Namgyal passed away here after coming back from a big adventure.

We’ll get to stay in a local guest house or homestay, which means we’ll live just like the people from Hanle do for a night. It’s going to be an exciting day.

DAY

Hanle – Umling la Pass – Hanle

Hanle → Umling La → Hanle

After breakfast, we’ll head out for a trip to Umling La, which is the highest road in the world where cars can go, sitting at a height of 19,300 feet. It’ll take us about 2 to 3 hours to get there. Once we’ve taken in the sights, we’ll drive back to Hanle.

You’ll have the evening free to relax or explore the local village. We’ll spend the night in Hanle.

DAY

Hanle to Leh via Chumathang

Hanle → Chumathang Hot Springs → Leh

After breakfast in the morning, we’ll head to Leh, taking a scenic route through Loma Bend and Mahay. On the way, we’ll stop to check out the Chumathang hot springs, where you can see water coming out from the earth that’s really hot!
